Problem Note 37330: Data item names that include angle brackets might not display correctly in SAS® Web Report Studio

SAS Web Report Studio does not support the use of angle brackets (< and >) in data item names. For example, in the Rename Data Item dialog box, you are not permitted to type < or > in the New Name box. You also cannot use the brackets when naming a custom data item.
However, SAS® Information Map Studio does enable you to use < and > in data item names. When such a data item is used in some versions of SAS Web Report Studio, the brackets are replaced with HTML tags as shown in the second column in the following example.
As a workaround, you can use the Rename Data Item dialog box to remove the brackets. Following is an example of replacing the brackets with a hyphen.
Note: Because of some additional work done in the area of scripting vulnerabilities, SAS Web Report Studio can display the angle brackets within table headers in version 3.1 with the current hot fix applied, version 4.2 M2 (TS2M3), and version 4.3. However, as a best practice, SAS does not recommend creating data items that contain angle brackets.
